Celebrating Super 16

This boy.
Melts my heart.
Makes me proud.

Making way for his future.
Chose challenging classes for his junior year.

Continues to hone his passion for music.
Excels at keeping himself entertained with electronics.
Loves being a part of a sports team.

This boy.
Growing up before my eyes,
No longer little curls adorn his head, but long locks.

Aquarius.
Masculine.  Sympathetic. Unpredictable.
Gets along well with Libra (phew – his parents!).
Humanitarian.  Leader.

This young man.
Loves with all his heart.
Challenges.  Seeker of truth.
Child of God.

Happy Super 16, my son!

We love you to the moon!

Mother's Day 2014

It was a lovely day.
My mother and father came to celebrate.

JP cooked us a scrumptious meal.
We had a little bubbly.
The sun shone brightly.

Cannot believe how big ma boys have gotten!
They tower over me now,
but still do not mind posing for a photo.

Just missing one.
Hope he knows how much I love & miss him.

thirTEEN

How is it possible that my youngest boy turned thirteen today?
Am I really that old {bite your tongue} or has time just escaped me?
What happened to the curls?  The chubby cheeks and the boyish grin?

It seems only yesterday that we held him in our arms, and twirled a curl between our fingers.  One short year ago, he turned twelve.  He continues to amaze us daily.  A full two months into the seventh grade and academics still comes very naturally. Oh, if you ask him, he will say he hates it, but I know the social side of him would miss it.  First term has ended and he, once again, has A's in every single subject, as if blinking makes it so.  He's continued playing saxophone in the band and singing in choir, as well as being on his way to speaking fluent Spanish.  Oliver finished his first summer of lacrosse (and loved it) and will be playing basketball again through the winter on a local Armstrong-Cooper house team.

He dressed up as an AHS super-fan and trick-or-treated last night for the last time (please, oh please), and is celebrating his birthday this weekend with a family dinner and movie with friends.

this winter they will be 15, 21 and 13

All of my boys are growing into wonderful young men.
But my baby...   is now a teenager...
Make it stop.
Isn't he supposed to stay my baby forever?!

Time,
please
slow
down
even just a little.

You make me smile.
Daily.

I love you.

Happy 13th Birthday Oliver!

a day in MY life

How I started my day...

The sweetest little video all the way from Norway!
And I could watch it over and over and over again.  Melts my heart.

{more to follow}  off to enjoy my day...

While I gather my thoughts about another year, you can read more about me here.

cen·te·nar·i·an {she would have been}

Grandma would have been 100 today.
September 12, 1913 - April 17, 2006
She married William Earl Henry.
The love of her life.

LuJean
Such a beautiful name. You don't hear the name being called out at playgrounds these days.
It has such a lovely ring to it. But her name fit her to a T. I can still hear Grandpa calling her from his arm chair in the living room. Although he also interjected "Mother" on occasion too!
And her reply {that comes to memory}: Oh, Bill! emphasis on the B.

They had three children.
Jim, Sandra & Sue

celebrating 50 years of marriage

I was lucky to have both of my grandmas in my life growing up.

The habit I picked up from this one?
Stuffing my tissue up the sleeve of my sweater.
Saving it for later.
I know...  gross, right?!
stop laughing

cen·te·nar·i·an

[sen-tn-air-ee-uhn]
adjective
1.
pertaining to or having lived 100 years.
noun
2.
a person who has reached the age of 100.

with Alek

with me

The pictures above were probably taken at roughly the same age
of the children in her lap, somewhere slightly younger than 2.

The boys got to spend time with their grandparents.
They will probably remember visiting them at North Ridge Care Center
more than at their apartment in St. Louis Park,
or their home on 201 Upton in Bryn Mawr.

Christmas 2004

Grandma had gorgeous alabaster skin,
didn't believe in modern medicine,
and had a fascination with owning one too many white blouses.

Miss you, Grandma.
xoxo

Happy 100th Birthday!

Henry would have enjoyed seeing your smiling face
& hearing your name announced by Willard Scott on the air.

It's his goal to be announced as a centenarian someday.

Mother's Day 2013

Had a wonderful day of celebration!  Not sure where the time went, but here's a short recap.

JP and I were up early and off to the Minneapolis Farmers Market - one of our favorite places to be on a Sunday morning in the summer.  We had to purchase a few more items for the straw bale gardening, and some herbs for breakfast.  It was very cold and eerily quiet there, so we didn't stay long.  We will head back to people watch another morning.

a little foam with your latte?
With his fresh herbs and recipes splayed out on the counter, I left JP home, full with a caffeine buzz, to get breakfast started.  He is in his glory & element when left to do as he wishes in the kitchen!

the beginnings of yummy goodness!
Met my parents at church to see Oliver's last musical performance in the youth choir at Calvary.  He is in the top row, far left by the white flag.  This was obviously one of his favorite songs of the program.

Happy to be done with youth musicals, can you tell?

Headed back home to a scrumptious brunch made by Chef John Paul.  Sausage & Asparagus strata and Blueberry Pecan Coffee Cake.  Bloody Mary's by Julie.

The rest of the day was just a perfect, lazy afternoon, with a photo session tossed in to commemorate the day, of course!

Oliver, Grandma, Grandpa, Henry

Nothing like lovin' from ma boys to make the day complete!
